Avoiding Wrong Food Combinations and Treating the Disorders

Now that we have explained all about Viruddha Aahara, the types of Viruddha Aahara, wrong food combinations as well as the ill-effects of Viruddha Aahara, let's discuss about how to avoid including wrong food combinations in our diet, as well as treating the ailments and issues arising out of their intake.

How to leave the bad combinations aside and start eating the right combinations?

A lot of us might have become accustomed to eating wrong food combinations and maybe that's why they don't affect us anymore. But that doesn't mean it is alright to do it. Incompatible foods are still incompatible. One has to slowly wean themselves off them - be it food, drinks or spices. But that doesn't mean that we stop it one fine day. The quantity has to be reduced slowly and steadily over a period of time.

This also means that we include more quantities of the alternative better foods in the diet. As you gradually bring down the quantity of the wrong food combinations, start increasing the good combinations more. You might be used to eating curd at night, which is bad for us, but don't stop it all of a sudden. Start having half the quantity at night, and half in the day, eventually shifting the entire quantity to the day.

So basically, the shift from bad to good combinations should not be sudden, but should be gradual and timed in a proper way.

  • Suddenly stopping improper food and starting healthy food might also lead to disease because our body isn't accustomed to it yet.
  • Eliminating bad habits gradually and starting a good proper diet as per Ayurveda can only bring health and happiness to the body and the mind.
  • Increase the intake of beneficial spices and herbs that aid digestion and make the Agni stronger.

How to treat ailments and issues related to incompatible foods?

  • If one has a lot of incompatible foods as a part of their staple diet, then there must be a lot of Ama in the body. First and foremost, that has to be expelled from the body. Also, one must eventually alter the diet to suit the predominant Dosha as well, so that the body comes into a state of balance.
  • Ayurvedic Panchakarma treatments like Vamana - which means emesis, and Virechana - which refers to purgation, are very helpful in dealing with issues related to incompatible food disorders.
  • In case there is food poisoning because of wrong combinations, the help of an Ayurvedic practitioner should be sought. Antidotes might be prescribed to sort out the issue immediately before it causes further harm to the body.
